The Long Road to Justice: The Unfinished Struggle of the Mothers of the Disappeared
T he world observes the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances every year on 30 August. Disappearance is not an event confined to the past for thousands of families in Sri Lanka. It is an unanswered question that has continued for years and in many cases, for decades. In the North and East of Sri Lanka, mothers and relatives of the disappeared have transformed this uncertainty into a sustained campaign for truth and justice. On this year's International Day, the families gathered Jaffna for an international conference.
